Progessive schools are by definition, not the majority or mainstream. They tend to be closer to the boundaries of educational theory and science. Some parents believe that a progressive school is a fancy way of saying ‘doing experiments on my children – no thank you!’. Certainly if you’ve read some of our other pages before coming to this one, you may be thinking that MIS is just a set of crazy ideas: flying drones, learning underwater torpedo games; staying on Rotuma island for 8-10 weeks – they must be crazy!
However, we do not believe that.
Many of us have our own children or close relatives as students at MIS and we would NEVER experiment on our own children. Instead the way we teach, and what we teach maybe new to Fiji but it is not new in other parts of the world. If you want to learn more about multiple intelligence theory, or how it is applied in the education sector, you could start on some of the links presented here. We personally love talking about this too so by all means ask for more information or even a designated talk about the science behind our programmes.
